Why choose the European School for your child?
The European School is aimed at children from families who have an international focus. It caters to the needs of open minds who consider Europe and the world their current and future home. Entrepreneurial people who feel at home in their country of origin, as well as in the country to where their lives and jobs take them.
At the European School, pupils meet kindred spirits, like-minded entrepreneurial individuals, well connected to both their home country and the world.
The curriculum blends the benefits of both national and international schools. It focuses both on the language and culture of the land of origin, as well on European and worldwide languages and cultures. The children benefit immensely from this approach.
For which pupils?
The European School Bergen welcomes pupils aged between 4 to 18. After two years of Nursery (ages 4-5), the pupils enter a 5-year primary school (6-11 years). Following this, they spend 7 years in secondary school (ages 12-18). Pupils can start their education at ESB at any age from 4 till 18. A prerequisite for taking the European Baccalaureate is that the pupil has followed the ESB curriculum during the last two schoolyears prior to the European Baccalaureate exam.
Multilanguage learning
Once pupils finish ESB, they are proficient in at least two languages: their mother tongue and an additional European language. Obtaining a thorough knowledge and understanding of a language requires both study and daily practice. For that reason, several subjects are taught in their second language. From the first year in secondary, ESB provides lessons in a third language.
Internationally recognised curriculum and diploma
Both the European School curriculum and Baccalaureate are fully recognised by all member countries of the European Union. This enables pupils to transfer from one of the European national schools to ESB.
The European Baccalaureate is the final exam taken by pupils. This diploma gives the holder the same rights and opportunities as diplomas awarded by national schools. The Baccalaureate opens doors to higher education and universities in Europe and various countries worldwide.
