European Schools’ Science Symposium

Welcome back to the pupils who took part in the European Schools’ Science Symposium trip to Bad Vilbel/Frankfurt! Check out a post trip summary written by one of our pupils!

The European School Science Symposium (ESSS) took place between April 21st to 24th at the European School Rhein Main in Bad Vilbel, Germany. There were 31 junior and 31 senior projects who competed in the competition.

“The first day (Sunday) was basically a travel day, on which we also did some preparation for the coming big day. On Monday each group was able to display their posters to the other contestants and present their project to a judging panel which consisted of specialists from a range of scientific fields. After all the projects were presented we were taken into the city center of Frankfurt, where we were able to spend some time and learn about the city. To finish up the big day, a party was hosted at the host school ES Rhein Main were the 10 finalists (5 junior and 5 senior projects) were announced. Tuesday the ten finalists presented their projects to all the jury as well as all competitors and we visited the European Central Bank (ECB) afterwards, where we did some workshops and the president, Christine Lagarde was kind enough to do a Q&A with us. At the end of the day we also went out for dinner all together at a restaurant called Oosten and Wednesday morning the prize giving and closing ceremony was held. After exploring Frankfurt again afterwards, we caught our train home.

This trip was an amazing experience, as not only did we get to see the incredible projects other students had worked hard on but we also made lots of friends.”

Many thanks to our Parents’ Association for sponsoring the hooded tops!
