This year’s In-house Emergency Service (BHV-Bedrijfshulpverlening) refresher training at our school was both engaging and practical, focusing on emergency response. The day was packed with activities that reinforced the preparedness for various scenarios. Marije, one of the participants summarised the day as follows:
“We kicked off the training with a briefing in the meeting room, where we reviewed our emergency roles and the importance of being ready for any situation. This was followed by a tour through the school, which allowed us to familiarize ourselves with evacuation routes and potential hazards.
One of the highlights was the hands-on practice with different fire extinguishers. Under the guidance of our trainers from FeniksGroup, we learned about the various types of extinguishers and when to use each one. We practiced using them in a controlled environment, which not only boosted our confidence but also emphasized the importance of quick decision-making in emergencies.
Another significant part of the training was using the evacuation chair. After a demonstration, we took turns securing a “patient” and navigating through the school. It was eye-opening to see how crucial teamwork is in this process, as each person played a vital role in ensuring a smooth evacuation.
As the day concluded, we gathered to share our experiences and insights. The practical exercises not only enhanced our skills but also fostered a sense of camaraderie among the team, which included ESB colleagues and a colleague from Playschool Little Europe, the childcare located in the ESB. We left feeling more prepared and united in our commitment to keeping our school population safe in any emergency.”
Thanks to all participants!
