Document Nederland Junior 

Het hele jaar kijk je ernaar uit: de vakantie. Wat doen jongeren met deze plotselinge overdosis vrije tijd? 

Het Rijksmuseum organiseert ieder jaar de fotowedstrijd Document Nederland Junior voor leerlingen uit het voortgezet onderwijs en mbo-studenten. Dit jaar was het thema toerisme. De jongeren kregen de opdracht om hun unieke vakantiegevoel vast te leggen en te laten zien hoe zij tegen toerisme aankijken. Welke rol speelt toerisme in hun leven en voelen zij zich eigenlijk nog toerist? 

De fotoseries tonen hoe verschillend ieder de vakantieperiode beleeft: van herinneringen maken met je vriendengroep, tot toeren door je geboorteland. Er is ook kritiek. Zo kampt de 
een met toerisme in eigen achtertuin en ziet de ander hoe de vakantie meer en meer beleefd wordt via een telefoonschermpje.

Document Netherlands Junior 

Every year, anticipation builds up for one thing: the holidays. What do young people do with this sudden surplus of free time? 

The Rijksmuseum organizes the annual Document Netherlands Junior photo contest for pupils from secondary school and students from intermediate vocational education. This year, the theme is tourism. The youngsters were tasked with capturing their unique holiday feeling and conveying how they perceive tourism. What role does it play in their lives, and do they actually still feel like tourists? 

The series of photographs eloquently capture how each individual experiences the holiday period in their own way: from making memories with a group of friends, to touring through their native country. However, there is also room for criticism. Some grapple with tourism in their own backyard, while others see how holidays are increasingly lived through the screen of a phone.
