Yesterday, M1/2E checked the Bird box, just to see what had happened over the Christmas holiday.  We were not expecting to find anything, as it is winter.  However, we were delighted to find a bird checking out the box. 

If you look closely you will see some small creatures in amongst the hay in the nest.  These are lice and, in the spring, will feed from the blood of the baby birds.  To stop this happening, we will; take the box down in the coming week,  clean it and dry it well before putting new nest material in and putting it back up.  We hope that this will encourage the birds to use it again this year.  Keep your fingers crossed.
