Winner Rijksmuseum Photo Competition
With my S5 Students we have participated in a photo competition about the Rijksmuseum about tourism. One of our students is selected as one of the winners. She will have her own exibition and can be the winner out of the 10 participants.

Wat betekent het om toerist te zijn? Wanneer je een nieuwe stad ervaart, ben je een fysieke aanwezigheid, maar glijd je er doorheen zonder sporen. Soms sta je er niet eens fysiek, maar zie je door ramen vervormingen van het landschap. Bewegingsonscherpte, regen en je eigen vooroordelen vertekenen je zicht.
Ik heb veel gereisd en heb veel foto’s van die reizen. Ik vraag me vaak af of ik er echt was of dat het maar een droom was. Vakanties gaan zo snel voorbij, en dan hervat het normale leven. Verandert toerisme eigenlijk iets, en wat zeggen deze foto’s over mijn ervaring?

What does it mean to be a tourist? When you experience a new city, you’re a physical presence, but glide through it and leave no mark. Sometimes you don’t even stand physically in the place, but see distortions of the scenery through windows. Motion blur, rain and your own preconceptions skew your view.
I have travelled a lot and have many photos from those journeys. I often ask myself whether I was really there or if it were only a dream. Holidays go past so quickly, and then normal life resumes. Does tourism actually change anything, and what do these photos say about my experience?
